It is often the case that we have to drill holes in the porcelain stoneware of the walls of the house to put in dowels or to house pipes for the various drains of sinks and washing machines or the pipes of heating systems etc. The problem is that drilling new types of very hard porcelain tile is not so easy. Various sites can be found on the Internet that recommend drilling a small hole in the tile with a hammer and nail and then using the old Widia drill bit to create the hole.

Unfortunately, this system worked with tiles from a few years ago, with porcelain tile, if you try to drill the tile that way, you will only chip the surface and burn the drill bit with the risk of cracking the laid tile as well. Try it to believe it!

The solution for drilling hard porcelain tile is there and has been on the market for a few years, but few people know about it. There are diamond drill or flexible drill bits that working water-cooled or waterless drill through even the hardest tiles with no problem.
You will find many different brands and prices on the market. It is not easy to tell the quality of the tool just by looking at it because there are specific technical features that make a difference. Two seemingly similar diamond cutters can drill 3 holes or 100 holes, it all depends on the quality of the tool and how it is used.
