Frequently the professional layer/tiler and also the DIY lover needs to make small holes (diametre 5; 6; 8; 10; 12 mm) on ceramic or Gres Porcellanato surfaces.
The traditional wet drill made with classic diamond tools is quite difficult and not economic because it is necessary to buy and to use specific accessories to contain the water necessary to cool the core bit.
Furthermore, for the water drilling is necessary to buy a specific electric drill with the special safety system.
To solve this problem, only some months ago, the specialized professional tiling tools company developed and launched on the market a new series of diamond drills (core bit) for dry use which are able to work on standard electric drills.
These core drills with continued sintered diamond crown, if well used (looks the video), are able to make a great number of holes with an optimum level of precision and a good drilling speed. These core bits are able to cut every type of new generation of Ceramic or Porcelain tiles.
But how many holes can this type of dry use core bits make?
The correct answer is different and it depends on the type of material to drill (Ceramic, Gres Porcellanato, Granite, Marble etc) and of the thickness of the tile or stone.
Anyway, in order to give a basic answer, we can affirm for direct experience that, for example, the Montolit core drill dry use named FTJ (if it is well used!) on a 7 – 8 mm of Porcelain tile, well, this core bit dry use is able to make more than 40 holes without any problem.

The core bits dry use (FTJ) application range is very big:
Connection for sanitary
Connection for furniture
Connection for windows
Connection for climatization
Realization of holes for pipes and cables
Today, the dry use diamond drills represent a small revolution for general layers, tilers, plumbers, electricians, and they are quickly substituting the classic, old and not appropriate Carburo di Tungsteno (Widia®) core bits for drills because these old Widia® tools are not able to drill new and very hard materials like the new generation of Porcelain tiles.
For the dry cutting of these new tiles, there is also on the market the electroplated vacuum core drills like the FS items(Mondrillo) by Brevetti Montolit (minimum rpm 10.000 with normal grinder machine). These core drills are much faster but they can make fewer holes compared to the sintered core bit that is possible to dress with special stones.
